GoldenTemple COORG

Our first day of holiday started by heading towards Coorg.

We started in the morning at around 5.30AM. Weather was chilling and we were enjoying the cold breezes. Had a little tea break on the Bangalore-Mysuru high-way just to get rid of the lazy morning feel.  Had our Break-fast in Dosa-point enjoyed amazing taste and reached to Mysuru by 8.30AM. Then our journey progressed towards  Kushal Nagar and reached there by 10:30AM. Checked-in to Treebo Sans Sarav where we planned to stay and arranged for the same well before.

Our First place to visit was The Golden temple which is Famous BUDDHA Temple.

ABOUT TEMPLE

Popularly called as Golden Temple, the Namdroling Monastery was established by Drubwang Padma Norbu Rinpoche in 1963. This is the largest teaching center of Nyingmapa, a lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, in the world and is home to a sangha community of over 5000 monks and nuns.

The main attractions inside the temple are the statues of Lord Buddha in the centre with statues of Lord Amitayus and Lord Padmasambhava on either sides. Visitors can pray, meditate, give their offerings and rotate the mani prayer drums. There is no dress code but typically I saw men and women in Traditional Indian dress or Shirt and jeans .

The monastery not only attracts large number of young Tibetans seeking enlightenment and education, but also draws large number of tourists from all over India and abroad. Watching hundreds of Buddhist monks doing religious rituals and offering prayers loudly is an exciting sight.

One can also visit nearby Sera Monastery which is modeled after the original Sera University in Tibet. Sera Monastery belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Buddhism and is the local seat of education. It is situated about 2 km from the main Namdroling Monastery. There are other equally beautiful smaller monasteries; the Sakya Monastery and the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. Sakya Monastery is a double story structure on the way to the main monastery. Tashi Lhunpo Monastery is one of the four great monasteries of central Tibet and the original seat of the Panchen Lama. This was re-established in Bylakuppe in 1972.

Temple Timings: 9 AM - 6 PM,

Prayer Time : At 1 PM
